26th September 2011

Well, didn’t I get spoilt rotten for my 26th!?

My very kitchen-centric birthday goodies included…
-Rococo chocolate tempering classes
-Cook’s blowtorch
-Simon Hopkinson’s ‘The Good Cook’
-‘The Vintage Tea Party Book’ by Angel Adoree
-The Ottolenghi cookbook
-‘How to make your own drinks’ by Susy Atkins
I’ll keep you posted on what creations these presents have inspired!

Just returned home after a fairly eventful night at the hospital (mysterious abdominal pain). We popped in to Windsor Farm Shop on the way back to buy some fresh bread and I collected those butchery bits that I had ordered earlier.

I doubt there’s much that is more surreal than picking up a bag of curly pig tails whilst in a woolly post-hospital morphine haze!

Ah, The Great British Bake Off, telly heaven!
I’ve got myself into a little routine of baking a treat and making some tea in preparation for each episode.
Yesterday I made dark chocolate cake pops (scruffy since I was in a hurry not to miss the beginning). These were a vast improvement on the chocolate Guinness cake from last week which was delicious but somewhat large for a lone eater!

Burns Night Biscuits

Burns night is fast approaching, can I be bothered to make these themed cookies again? Perhaps not, but I’m keen to try making a haggis -if I can stomach it (no pun intended!)

Or maybe it’s time to try the Fat Duck whisky gums, Heston’s take on good old-fashioned wine gums. A slightly buggered recipe can be found here:

Here’s another blogger’s attempt at the whisky gums.

-I love the premise of this blog, it helps to make Heston’s recipes a little less daunting. I only wish I’d thought of it first!

Hello WordPress, it’s me, Greedy Girl…

Having already written about my amateur cooking and eating habits on Facebook I have decided to branch out to the next level -a real, grown-up blog.

Facebook is a fantastic tool for putting your ramblings out there for friends and family, especially with it’s potential for interactivity. However, it is also frequently changing and users have little control over what is happening to the material they’ve input. So… hello WordPress, here I am! Admittedly I’m hopelessly confused about how to use the site but I’m sure it’s easy enough to pick up soon!

My first job will be to move my Facebook posts to this site. I wont be leaving the site, instead I will run both simultaneously. If you are a Facebook user, please consider joining my (very) small band of ‘likers’, I’m very proud of those guys!
